There are several safe and common ways to remove press-on nails without using specialized nail polish remover; however, you must be mindful of the pressure applied and the duration of the process to avoid damaging your natural nails.
Warm Water Soaking Method
Prepare warm water (around 40°C-warm but not scalding), a bowl, a towel, and a cuticle pusher or cotton swab.
Soak your nails completely in the warm water for 10–15 minutes to soften the edges of the press-on nails. Use the cuticle pusher to gently lift the edge; if the nail remains firmly attached, soak for another 5 minutes. Once the nail loosens, slowly remove it in one piece-do not rip or tear it off.
Method Using Removal Tools
Suitable if you have a cuticle pusher, metal pusher, or nail file but lack specialized remover.
Use a nail file to gently buff the surface of the press-on nail to reduce its thickness, taking care not to file into your natural nail. Use the cuticle pusher to slowly pry at the gap between the press-on nail and your natural nail; combining this with a warm water soak yields better results.
Softening Method Using Household Substitutes
Utilize substances like oils or alcohol that can dissolve the adhesive used on press-on nails.
Apply cooking oil or hand cream to the edges of the press-on nails and wait 5–10 minutes for the glue to soften before removing them with a pusher. Alternatively, use a cotton swab to repeatedly apply alcohol or floral water (such as Florida Water) to the edges; once softened, gently peel the nails off, avoiding contact with the surrounding skin to prevent irritation.
Precautions
Do not rip or tear off the press-on nails directly, as this can cause your natural nails to split or break.
If adhesive residue remains on your nails, soak them in warm water and gently scrape with a cuticle pusher, or apply hand cream to soften the residue before wiping it away.
3) Apply nail strengthener or treatment oil promptly after removal to repair the nail surface.
